Mustard, the cool yellow swatches of color that blanket the hills during Spring —
a natural attraction as something to paint. Yet, for me the resonance of mustard goes deeper then being purely visual. As a child I lived in it — building tunnels in the tall mustard, flying kites, and having dirt-clod wars. Laying down in it to view a sky of warmth, and taking in that distinct sweet smell. Every year it presents itself around the corner, and down the street. The mustard stands out on the brightest sun-lit, and darkest rain-filled days — that is what youth does.
